The Farr 56 Pilot House is the ideal yacht in the range for the long term cruising couple who plan to spend extended periods of time on board. It shares the light and airy pilothouse, large internal volume, cavernous deck storage, superyacht type access to the machinery, engine and a palatial aft cabin, that have all become the signature of the range.
The Farr 56 is designed to be comfortable as well as functional, whether she is blasting along in the tradewinds, sailing around the bay in light winds or tied up at the dock. A modern yacht has to fulfil many functions from corporate entertaining to providing a safe platform for family holidays. She is at home in all of these habitats.
Rig
As a standard the 56 comes with a fully automated sail handling system with a hydraulic In-mast furling rig from Selden. This together with the hydraulic furling headsail system and powered winches give you complete push button control from the safety of the cockpit. The rig has a detachable cutter stay which stows neatly aft when not in use and takes a small staysail when the going gets tough. There is a Navtec manual hydraulic package fitted that controls the vang and backstay from the cockpit.
Many other options are available and rig packages can include a standard, more conventional mast with a fully battened main and lazy jacks, carbon rig for those who want that extra bit of performance or the new generation of In boom furling systems. The full detailed technical specification with drawings and plans is available on request.
Deck
The screwless teak laid deck and cockpit, with the coachroof running neatly into the foredeck, seen on the Farr 56, is another hallmark of the Farr Pilot House range.
So many designs compromise their suitability for offshore cruising by using all the available space for accommodation. When you look at the deck on the Farr 56 you can see this is not the case. There is a large lazarette locker aft accessed via two watertight Rondal hatches. Outboard of the lazarette, to port and starboard, are two additional lockers, one for gas and one dedicated for a liferaft. Forward, in addition to the chain locker, is a large sail stowage area. In some layouts this may be accessible from below and could double as a workshop.
The cockpit, with its fixed table, is the control centre of the yacht. The winch controls, furling controls, bow thruster, etc are all conveniently placed on the steering pedestal. The winches surround the cockpit coaming and are all positioned so that they can be easily used from either inside or outside the cockpit.
A variety of deck and or fully fitted cockpit cushions are available which, together with the bimini and over boom sun awning help to make living aboard in the lower latitudes both comfortable and desirable.
Interior
View The interior of the Farr 56 delivers unrivalled standards of comfort.
Her accommodation offers a stunning pilothouse area with panoramic views. The navigation area, which is in the forward port side of the saloon, has engine and autopilot controls are fitted as standard together with the array of instruments that are part of the cruising yachtsmans accessories these days.
Moving aft and down two steps is the separate galley. Its central location minimises motion at sea and provides privacy for the chef, while still allowing unimpeded access to the aft cabin. Standard equipment includes a stainless steel gas stove with grill and oven, microwave, twin stainless steel sinks and a fridge and freezer. The substantial aft stateroom features a king-sized centreline berth, a vanity unit / writing desk, seating area and a multitude of hanging lockers and drawers. Its own generous en-suite heads completes the ambience.
Forward there is a choice of two or three spacious cabins together with a choice of one or two heads, one of which is en-suite. The pilothouse seating area can be raised as on the Farr 50 to allow greater space in the cabin below the saloon.
We have other interior designs available and most customers requirements can be accommodated.
